Harlem students receive Christmas gifts
Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer and P.S. 76 Principal Charles DeBerry accepted and distributed gifts from The Sled, an organization founded by New York City moms that collects gifts for children and families who live in shelters or other temporary housing.
The organization was founded last year after homeless students who attend P.S. 188 on the Lower East Side and P.S. 76 in Harlem canceled their annual holiday drive for P.S. 188, moms who called themselves ‘Sugarplum Fairies’ sprang into action and collected gifts for both P.S. 188 and P.S 76, ultimately fulfilling 1,000 wishes.
With the help of Brewer, the organization expanded its goal to six public schools and six family homeless shelters, fulfilling 1,300 wishes, plus COVID care packages for homeless families.
