50th Annual African American Day Parade

Thousands lined Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Harlem on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, for the 50th annual African American Day Parade. This year’s event honored African American achievement in the area of politics and government with the theme “Integrity & Transparency = Good Government.” Melba Moore kicked off the parade with a rendition of the Black National Anthem. Grand marshals include Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, State Sen. Brian Benjamin, Assembly Member Inez Dickens, political strategist Leah Daughtry, Rep. Adriano Espaillat, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, former Mayor David Dinkins, former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, and former N.Y. State Assembly Member Keith Wright. NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray was also at the parade. More than 200 organizations participated in this year’s parade, including community groups, unions, law enforcement, fraternities and sororities.
