Make America Great Again: Trump Must Go! #100
EDITORIAL | 1/3/2019, 10:01 a.m.
There was never any doubt in our minds that we would have enough ammo to excoriate Trump each week. In fact, he’s supplied us with a surplus of insanity that even a daily bashing would not deplete.
Even as we go to press with our 100th MAGA, Trump’s madness, mayhem and mismanagement top the news as he remains adamant, his heels dug in to get his wall built on the nation’s southern border. This bit of megalomania, his holding the government hostage, is troubling his base and the GOP.
But, as always, Trump’s little fingers point the blame elsewhere, now saying the fault is the Democrats when in the beginning he promised that Mexico would pay for the wall to halt the “invasion,” and then said he was willing to shoulder that responsibility, and now in a typical flip-flop he drops the blame on the Democrats.
Check out his latest tweet: “It’s incredible how Democrats can all use their ridiculous sound bite and say that a Wall doesn’t work. It does, and properly built, almost 100 percent! They say it’s old technology—but so is the wheel. They now say it is immoral—but it is far more immoral for people to be dying!”
Part of this tweet is a response to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries who said that Trump, with his wall, is applying a 15th century solution to a 21st century problem.
By the time you read this piece—and we certainly hope it isn’t true—the government shutdown will be entering its 13th day, with no resolution in sight as thousands of government employees suffer through another dysfunction on Capitol Hill and in the Oval Office.
How we get past the current impasse is anybody’s guess, although the Democratic leaders in Congress appear to be making every effort to present a plan that the GOP and Trump can accept.
Now that the House has welcomed a corps of insurgents, things are sure to become even testier, and we await how the new chairs of the various committees, especially the judiciary, oversight and finance committees, will take up the cudgels and carry out some of the Trump-made problems.
If they just take the measure of Trump by focusing on fundamental democratic and constitutional rights that will be a considerable service to the American people. Since Trump assumed office, we have witnessed a tsunami of violations and most egregiously, his determination to obstruct justice. Obviously, we are pleased to learn that Elizabeth Drew, a deeply engaged journalist during the Nixon era, has cited that the impeachment of Trump is inevitable.
Such an action might not, in the end, remove him from office, but it will keep him busy and perhaps distracted enough that some of the other items on his destructive agenda can be negated.
We have now flipped the calendar and if it’s anything like last year we are in for a topsy-turvy, erratic and unpredictable ride, which means another year of fodder for us and our plea that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
