Tuesday, City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez and City Council Member Carlos Menchaca held a news conference to denounce what they believe is a disregard of our U.S. Constitution.

An executive order to end birthright citizenship cannot amend the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of this country. Several City Council members feel constitutional rights are under attack by President Trump.

According to the state comptroller’s office, New York State is home to nearly 4.4 million immigrants. Less than 20 percent of the foreign-born population in New York is under the age of 25. Among all New York children underage 18, slightly less than 5 percent are immigrants.
