Harlem celebrates Dr. Felder Day

Honoring local icon Dr. Jack Felder, his son Nova proclaimed a day in his name on the very 125th Street in Harlem where for more than 15 years he and his recently departed father would sell books and other media to bring attention to social, economic and political issues that affect the global African community. Nova said that his biochemist father was always teaching, and through his pamphlets, writings and raw words was “always highlighting the problems created by the military-industrial complex, prison-industrial complex, neo-colonialism, police brutality and the education-industrial complex…illuminating African answers and solutions for many of his community’s problems.” Nova and his father informed the community with their creative displays (lynching pictures, historical information in front of the old Mart 125) and held lively informative conversations with the Harlem community and visitors.
