Trump’s racist slur aimed at Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and recycling his “Pocahontas” insinuation, was still brewing when he launched another explosive retweet.
He alarmed and unnerved Warren and her followers during a ceremony to honor the Navajo code talkers and their heroism during World War II and then ticked off British Prime Minister Theresa May with what she deemed his “tacit endorsement” of videos from Britain First, an ultranationalist group. Whether at home or abroad, Trump has a talent for doing the alt-right thing, and as May said of the videos that promote a fascist, racist, extremist hate group, “It is wrong for the president to have done this.”
And equally wrong was his renewal of disparagement of Sen. Warren. In effect, his anti-Muslim rants and edicts conflate terribly with his ongoing disregard and hatred of Sen. Warren.
Warren seized on the moment, as she should have done, turning Trump’s “very worst of gutter politics” into another way to reach out to her base and raise additional funds for her war chest and a possible presidential run in 2020.
In one way, tactically, it’s just another instance of distraction from the Trump quarters, another way to draw the media’s attention while he ushers through a plan to cut taxes for his billionaire cohorts and major corporations.
These actions are also related to a move by Trump to get his choice as head of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; a judge he appointed made the decision in his favor. This was yet another poke in Warren’s eye as the CFPB was her creation.
Trump misses no opportunity to assail, ridicule or insult a member of the Democratic Party, and the denunciations he hurled at Sen. Franken are particularly asinine and ironic in view of his own sexual misconduct.
Now that North Korea has fired another missile of even greater range and Trump continues his barrage of tweets, there is no relief from the imperilment of these two imperialists and we marshal the effort once more that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
