The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame joined forces with former Light Heavyweight/Heavyweight champion Michael Spinks to host a viewing party for the Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia fight March 4 at the gorgeous VUE Rooftop Bar & Lounge at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. Thurman unified the welterweight title in a split decision over Garcia in the bout that took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Attendees at the ACBHOF event included founder Ray McCline; the Honorable Don Guardian, mayor of Atlantic City; Angela Crockett, ACBHOF director of public relations; Roy Foreman, senior vice president of the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame; actor Lillo Brancato; and Yours Truly, who was surprised with a portrait birthday cake, balloons and cupcakes. The ACBHOF weekend takes place May 26-28 at the Claridge. The 2017 inductees include Mike Tyson, Arturo Gotti, Leavander Johnson, Michael Spinks, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Larry Holmes, Mike Rossman, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Lou Duva (who recently passed), Mike Hall Sr., Bill Johnson, Don King, Frank Gelb, Russell Peltz, Don Elbaum, Larry Hazzard Sr., Dr. Frank Doggett, Steve Smoger, Dave Bontempo, Jack Obermayer, Bert Sugar, Bob Lee, Ken Condon and Dennis Gomes.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Common, who is coming off a butt-kicking turn as one of the villains in “John Wick: Chapter 2,” is getting ready for “Quick Draw,” a revenge thriller. This appearance will be the first time Common toplines a major movie, making a milestone in his rising acting career. The producers are promising “hyper intense shoot-outs, choreographed car chases and lightning fast hand-to-hand combat” as the action “plays out across the mean streets of Los Angeles.”

Jazz songstress Rhonda Ross, the daughter of Diana Ross and Berry Gordy, will celebrate her new CD “In Case You Didn’t Know” at #HerStoryHerVoice at the Iridium in New York City Sunday, March 19, at 8:30 p.m. The Iridium’s #HerStoryHerVoice is a monthlong celebration of Fierce Female Performers, which Rhonda is. Rhonda’s future tour dates include April 6 in Anchorage, Alaska, and April 21 at the Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Festival in Newport News, Va.
