President Trump is obsessed with two Democrats: Hillary Clinton, who he defeated in the last election, though he doesn’t seem completely convinced, and his predecessor in the Oval Office, Barack Obama.
Six months in office and innumerable tweets from Trump, and Clinton, like that perfume, stays on the president’s mind, what little there is. And his determination to remove every vestige of Obama continues to be stuck in a groove like a needle in a broken record, if you are old enough to remember those days of 78s.
On Wednesday Trump targeted another pillar of the Obama legacy with a policy decision that will prohibit transgender individuals from serving in the military. In addition to his normalization move on Cuba, his deal with Iran, his steps to improve climate change, etc., Obama had put in place measures that would allow a transgender person to serve openly in the military.
“After consultation with my generals and military experts,” Trump tweeted, “please be advised that the United States government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military.”
Who’s next on Trump’s list to feel the power of his tweet?
Pundits are trying to figure out what prompted this move at this time. It’s possibly another distraction from the mounting discord in his administrative ranks, with reports of denunciations of the attorney general because he legally recused himself from the Russian probe and the rumors of putting the secretary of state and the secretary of health and human services on the chopping block.
Trump has let it be known that if the GOP does not come up with a repeal and replace bill to obliterate Obamacare, then Tom Price, head of the HHS, will be fired.
With the rancor in his ranks, the ceaseless chaos in his administration, Trump could very well be left standing alone, like the proverbial cheese, if his promised dismissals are realized.
For the most part, he’s virtually standing alone now with practically all of his chosen leaders under fire or threatened with being fired, and certainly limited in their ability to act in a logical and reasonable way.
Logic, reason, clear thinking and just an ounce of humility and concern for the weak and impoverished are increasingly nonexistent in the Trump world. The absence of his regard leaves us no alternative but to insist that to Make America Great Again—Trump Must Go!
