Uptown barber 'Cutting for a Cure'

Several young men are headed back to school with a fresh cut thanks to Harlem barber Dennis Mitchell (aka “Denny Moe”). On Wednesday, Mitchell hosted his fourth Annual Book Bag and School Supply Giveaway at his barbershop. The barbershop teams up with the Bi-state Coalition for the event.

Mitchell has been holding the event since 2007 as a way to give back to the community and help neighborhood children achieve their educations, especially those whose parents struggle to afford school supplies.

Each year Denny Moe offers free school supplies purchased with his own money to provide book bags packed with loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, binders, crayons, erasers, pencils and pens to help the children start the school year. The book bags are distributed to young boys and girls who visit the barbershop.
